The DENR-Environmental Management Bureau – Region I through Environmental Monitoring Officer (EnMO) Alfie T. Nolasco of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Section conducted an information, education and communication (IEC) campaign on Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 on July 6, 2021 at Pagudpud Sports Complex, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.
EnMO Nolasco together with Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President, Hon. Rex Constantino Benemerito Jr., and Local Youth Development Officer II Pat Quitoriano, initiated a Youth Connect program for the local youth community. An IEC campaign was conducted which aims to inform the youth about solid waste management programs, the law behind its implementation, and strengthen responsible service, commitment, cleanliness and orderliness in the community.
EnMO Nolasco discussed the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and presented the importance of proper garbage collection, waste diversion, and waste disposal system in the community. He stressed that waste disposal is a big concern in the country, and the residents’ health is growing increasingly exposed to the serious harm of improper waste management.
EnMO Nolasco was hired under the EMB Solid Waste Enforcement and Education Program (SWEEP) which ensures that all DENR Field Offices have Solid Waste Management Focal personnel who shall monitor compliance of LGUs with R.A. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and also provide technical assistance and conduct IEC activities on RA 9003.
