The DENR-Environmental Management Bureau through its Ambient Monitoring and Technical Services Section conducted an on-site training on water quality monitoring and sampling for local government unit partners of the Lower Amburayan Rivers System โ€“ Water Quality Management Area (LARS-WQMA) on August 31, 2022 at the water sampling stations in the Municipalities of Suyo, Tagudin, Alilem and Sugpon, Province of Ilocos Sur and Municipality of Bangar, Province of La Union.

The said training aims to provide technical assistance to partner LGUs in conducting water quality sampling and monitoring within the LARS-WQMA.

Engr. Ermenio A. Budeng, Jr., Environmental Management Specialist II, discussed the significance of water quality monitoring and sampling and its importance to the environment, sampling bottles and on-site measurement to be used during the sampling and monitoring proper. He also demonstrated to the participants the proper labeling of bottles, proper position in taking water samples, filling out the ARF, and transportation process of the gathered water samples.

Engr. Budeng along with Mr. Carl Vincent R. Rabanillo, EMB-1 Technical Support Staff, trained the LARS-WQMA member LGUS on how to use and operate the on-site Water Quality Checker and how to record the data measured by the said equipment. Parameters monitored during the on-site training were the potential of hydrogen (pH), dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), temperature (ยฐC), color, chloride (Cl), nitrate (NO3-), phosphate (PO43-), and Fecal Coliform (FC) of the nine LARS-WQMA monitoring stations.
